Be a part of our 20th CHKD RunWalk for the Kids on August 29, 2026, at Waterside District, where families, friends, and community heroes come together for a day of celebration. Choose the 5K, 2‑Mile Walk, or a virtual option, making it easy for everyone to join the fun and support CHKD’s mission. Every registrant receives an event shirt, medal, and goody bag, and this year’s theme encourages you to wear your best superhero cape or costume to honor the heroes who inspire us — military heroes, community heroes, CHKD heroes, patients, and the special hero in your life. Our top 5K finishers overall (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place men and women) will receive a Running Etc. gift certificate on race day, and our age group winners will have their gift certificates mailed after the event.
This year’s event will be emceed by Tom Schadd from WAVY TV 10 and Bob Schniedwind from J&A Racing, with music from our DJ to keep the energy high. Families can enjoy activities in our Kids Zone, and everyone is welcome to stop by the food tent for Chanello’s Pizza, fruit, and drinks throughout the festivities. It’s a day designed for all ages, promoting health and wellness, community spirit, and plenty of fun, all to help raise funds, friends, and awareness for CHKD.

PLEASE NOTE:
No team packet pickup
If you are 16 or older, you must have your ID to pick up your race number - NO EXCEPTIONS.
If you are picking up race numbers for others, you must have your ID, a note from the person you are picking up for authorizing you to pick up their packet and a copy of their ID - NO EXCEPTIONS. You may pick up a family member's race packet as long as you have the same last name and you have your ID.
BIB# Numbers will be available after 3pm Wednesday, August 26th. If you register after this date, your number will be assigned at packet pick-up.
RACE RESULTS: QR Code on the 5K bib.
Virtual Races
Can't make Race Day; but want to participate for a RunWalk shirt & medal? REGISTER for either race and you have until August 30th to complete it! Swag bags will be mailed to all Virtual Registrants.
Race Bib Info & Results
This year's 5K will be timed by Flat Out Events. Bibs have a QR code with the link to race results. Contact timing@flatoutevents.com if you have any questions or race timing issues.
Race Photos
We would LOVE to see your race day photos, please tag us @RunWalkfortheKids, and #chkdrunwalkforthekids. Find race day photos on our Facebook page and your photos by bib number at Lida Nixon Photos.
Top 5K finishers overall, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place men & women will be presented with a Running Etc. certificate on Race Day.
Age group top finishers in the 5K Run will be MAILED their Running Etc. certificates 1-2 weeks after Race Day.

Weather forecasts are tracked before the race for heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds and extreme heat. If there is a possibility of threatening weather, information will be posted on our RunWalk Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RunWalkfortheKids/ or this website home page, so that runners/walkers can prepare for severe weather during the race as well as possible course changes, delayed start, etc. Safety of all participants is priority.
On race day, the Medical and Race Directors along with the City of Norfolk and Norfolk Police Department will decide if any changes will be made to the race/s. The race start time can change, the race can be postponed or the event can be cancelled. No Refunds will be given in the event of any cancellations. (Water, fog and high winds may cause the course(s) to be changed or shortened.)
