King's Daughters and CHKD Home » Who We Are » Relationship to CHKD
In 1896, The King's Daughters organization was formed to provide health care for indigent mothers and their children. In 1961, The King's Daughters established Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) exclusively for children. Today, CHKD is the cornerstone of Children’s Health System, Inc. (CHS), a networked organization in which partner hospitals, physicians and community services provide children and families throughout the region with uniform, comprehensive services at the most cost-effective levels. CHS grew from CHKD as it adapted to the changing environment of children’s health care. Of the 10-25 members of the CHS Board, five are King’s Daughters, and the President of The King's Daughters serves as an ex-officio member of the CHS Board. The King's Daughters elect their CHS respresentatives annually. At least three CHS Board members are physicians. The CHS Board meets monthly.
