2,600 RunWalk for the Kids
More than 2,600 runners and walkers registered this year, which represented a 52 percent increase from 2008. We had more teams, more individual runners, more walkers and more children in the Fun Run.

The King's Daughters elect new officers
At their annual meeting held on the evening of June 2, The King's Daughters elected their Board of Directors for 2009-2010 which includes four new Board members as well as re-elected two King's Daughters to the Children's Health System Board.

Thrift Store Bag Drive Winners!
Each May, the Circles of The King's Daughters participate in the annual Donation Drive for the CHKD Thrift Stores. This year almost 5000 bags were donated. The Circles donating the most bags are.... click to find out!

Circular - gone GREEN!
The first "green" issue of The King's Daughters newsletter, The Circular, is now loaded on the website and will be emailed to all King's Daughters with email addresses. We hope this will save a few trees as well as a few dollars.

KD Connect Meeting Agenda

“Wave Goodbye to Kids’ Cancer” Radiothon
92.9 The Wave will host the 2009 “Wave Goodbye to Kids’ Cancer” Radiothon on April 2nd & 3rd to benefit CHKD’s Childhood Cancer Program. The event will broadcast live from the hospital lobby and volunteers are needed to answer phones and take pledges from people who call in. Time slots are available throughout both days in 3-hour increments. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Lea McFall at lea.mcfall@chkd.org or 757-668-7673.

"Let's Pretend" - Volunteers needed!
CHKD is once again offering the Let’s Pretend Children’s Hospital program to local first graders, designed to help reduce the fear and anxiety they may experience if they must be hospitalized or visit the emergency room. Volunteers and staff will lead approximately 1,200 students from local school systems through mock hospital settings including laboratory, radiology, operating room, a patient’s room, the emergency department, and a child life playroom. The program concludes with a tour of a CHKD transport unit. This seventh annual event is scheduled for April 28 – May 1, 2009, in the Brickhouse auditorium at CHKD. Joy Parker, volunteer service director, will be coordinating the volunteer placements for this program. This program is a fun opportunity to volunteer. Contact the volunteer services office at 668-7195 If you would like to volunteer one or more days for this program! This volunteer opportunity is open to the public!

Holly Events "Now Hiring" !

Thank you State Farm!
On October 25, 2008, the National State Farm Foundation 5K Challenge came to the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. Rose Goheen a State Farm Agent and King’s Daughters led her circle, Cypress Point Circle, with the volunteer efforts for this event that generated $16,057 in donations and sponsorships! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Weight Management Program at CHKD.

Department of the Navy donation

North Suffolk Circle says "Thank You"
North Suffolk Circle would like to extend their appreciation of all Circles who have helped them this year by collecting their cartridges, toners, used cell phones,etc. You have truly helped make their "Cartridges for Kids" fundraising efforts a success! They raised $2,000 from this project during the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
