The King's Daughters are the founders of CHKD.  We have more than 120 years of fascinating history of caring for children from starting with a bicycle nurse, to opening a clinic, to building a modern stand-alone pediatric hospital. The King's Daughters' mission is to ensure the future of superior pediatric health care for our region through fund raising, advocacy and community support. Membership is open to anyone who has a desire to uphold this mission.

The King's Daughters founded the hospital in 1896 and managed every detail as volunteers until 1984, when they formed the Children's Health System to take over the management of the Hospital.  They remain the largest supporter and advocate.

The King’s Daughters work in so many different ways for our children. They are mothers, doctors, homemakers, attorneys, single and married women whose achievements -- from a single visiting nurse, to a hospital exclusively for children, to hugely successful fund-raising activities -- have been phenomenal.  There are more than 1,100 king's daughters organized into 50+ volunteer circles.

The King's Daughters is governed by a Board of Directors.  Board members are elected by The King's Daughters membership.  The King's Daughters' membership is organized into Circles (Adult and Junior).  Each circle elects its own officers (Leader, Treasurer, Secretary, etc.).  The King's Daughters staff supports the Circle members.

Children's Health System (CHS) is the organization that manages Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) and other entities.  The CHS Board of Directors has members from the business community, the medical community and The King's Daughters who are elected by the King's Daughters' membership.  The President of The King's Daugters also sits on the CHS Board.  To read more about the King's Daugters relationship to CHKD, click here.

are a project of The King's Daughters.  All proceeds from the Thrift Stores benefits CHKD.
